As a series of activities to celebrate the global Confucius Institute Day, the Confucius Institute at the University of Regina held an open class in Global Learning Center on 23 September. The open class is a student-oriented class designed to showcase the contents as well as the teaching methods. The idea of the open class was that a large group of students of varying skill levels would be in a single, large classroom with several teachers.
Qiu Yan, Zhang Zimo and Chao Jianxiong each presented a section of the lectures to the entire group at elementary level of Chinese language learning and advanced level of Chinese culture. Teachers give lectures at different level to fit into different groups for each subject according to their skill level Chinese. As language learning requires exercises in pronunciations and conversations, the students after lectures will work in small groups to achieve their assigned goal. Teachers serve as both facilitators and instructors.
The open classes attracted about 50 attendances. The audiences show their interest in registering class for elementary level Chinese and advanced level of business Chinese and culture.
